How does Allegra work?
Generic Allegra belongs to a group of medicines medicines called H1 histamine receptor blockers. By blocking H1 histamine receptors fexofenadine helps to prevent the manifestation of allergic reactions caused by histamine. Histamine is an inflammatory mediator which is released in response to activation of mast cells by IgE. Being released histamine causes increased permeability of the blood vessels, increases the sensitivity of the nerve cells to pain, contributes to development of allergic reactions. Anti-histamine effect is observed in one hour after taking fexofenadine tablet, maximal therapeutic effect is achieved in 6 hours and lasts for a period of 24 hours.
When Allegra is prescribed?
Generic Allegra is prescribed for the treatment of:
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients over 12 years of age
- Chronic hives
- Chronic idiopathic hives
Before taking Allegra
You should not take Allegra if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Children under 12 years of age
Allegra should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How Allegra is taken?
You should take Allegra exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. You can take fexofenadine with or without food. Tablets should be washed down with sufficient amount of water, swallowing whole without chewing. Do not break or crush the tablets.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Allegra dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth.
Which Allegra side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Allegra. However, not everyone who takes Allegra will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Allegra tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Allegra side effects:
- CNS: headache, drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, insomnia, nervousness, insomnia
- Digestive system: nausea
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, itching, Quinke's edema, labored breathing

Which other medicines can interact with Allegra?
- Macrolide antibiotics (erythtomycin)
- Antifungals (ketoconazole, miconazole, itraconazole,fluconazole)
- Antacids (aluminium oxide)
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
How Allegra should be stored?
Generic Allegra tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.

You should not share this medicine with others. Do not take Allegra on your own initiative without your doctors approval. Keep the drug as well as any other disposable material out of the reach of children.
