How does Generic Clarinex work?
Generic Clarinex contains the active ingredient desloratadine which is anti-histamine compound with prolonged therapeutic effect. The medication works by blocking peripheral histamine H1- receptors. Desloratadine is a primary active metabolite of loratadine. By blocking H1 histamine receptors the medication helps to prevent the development of allergic reactions.
When Generic Clarinex is prescribed?
Generic Clarinex is used for the treatment:
- Seasonal and all year round allergic rhinitis (elimination or relief sneezing, nasal congestion, mucous discharges from the nasal cavity, nasal itching, itching and redness of the yes, lacrimation)
- Chronic idiopathic urticardia (relief or elimination of skin itching, rash)
Before taking Clarinex
You should not take Clarinex if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Known hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Children under 18 years of age
Clarinex should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Hereditary diseases such as fructose intolerance, disorder of glucose/galactose absorption
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How Clarinex is taken?
You should take Clarinex exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Clarinex is usually taken once per day.
You can take tablets with or without food. Tablets should be washed down with sufficient amount of water swallowing whole. Do not crush, chew, or break desloratadine tablets.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Clarinex dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: increased heart, chest pain
Which Clarinex side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Clarinex. However, not everyone who takes Clarinex will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Clarinex tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Clarinex side effects:
- Tiredness, dry mouth, headache
- Cardiovascular system: tachycardia, increased heart rate
- Digestive system: increased activity of the liver enzymes, increased concentration of bilirubin
- Allergic reactions: anaphylactic shock, skin rash

Which other medicines can interact with Clarinex?
- Antifungal drugs like ketoconazole, fluconazole, itraconazole
- Macrolide antibiotic: erythromycin
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
How Clarinex should be stored?
Clarinex tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
