How does generic Bactrim work?
Bactrim is a antibacterial preparation which contains 2 active ingredients sulfometoxazol and trimethoprim. Sulfamethoxazole is similar to paraaminobenzoic acid which disturbs the production of folic acid in the bacteria. Without folic acid bacteria are not able to grow and replicate. Trimethoprim enhances the action of sulfametoxazole by inhibiting the reduction of dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid active form of folic acid (responsible for the protein metabolism and replication). Bactrim is a bactericidal antibiotic with a broad spectrum action.

Before taking generic Bactrim
You should not take generic Bactrim if any of these conditions apply to you:

- Kidney failure (cratinine clearance less than 15ml/min)

- Hyperbilirubinemia in children
- Deficiency of G6PD
- Hypersensitivity to the medication ingredients
- Hypersensitivity so sulfonamides

How generic Bactrim is taken?
You should take generic Bactrim exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. There is no standard dose for Co-trimoxazole, the dosage is determined in dependence of the severity of the disease and sensitivity of the microorganisms. Generic Co-trimoxazole should be taken each day at the same time to maintain the adequate blood levels of the medication.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Bactrim dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: lack of appetite, intestinal colic, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, confusion, fever, hematuria, crystalluria.
