How does Bicillin work?
Bicilin-3 is a combined antibacterial preparation that contains three active ingredients Benzathine benzylpenicillin, Benzylpenicillin procaine and Benzylpenicillin. Bicillin 3 exerts bactericidal action against a wide variety of microorganisms including gram-positive and gram-negative. Bactericidal effect is achieved doe to suppression the the synthesis of bacterial cellular membrane.
Bicillin-5 contains Benzathine benzylpenicillin and Benzylpenicillin procaine. The medication exerts more prolonged action against microorganisms. Action mechanism is similar to Bicillin-3 and is based on suppression of bacterial cells wall production.
When Bicillin is prescribed?
Bicillin-3 and Bicillin-5 are prescribed for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms:
- Bicillins-3: syphilis, streptococcal infections including acute tonsillitis, scarlet fever, wound infections, erysipelas, rheumatism
- Bicillin-5: rheumatism prophylaxis, syphilis, frambesia, erysipelas, rheumatism, streptococcal infections
Before taking Bicillin
You should not take Bicillin if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medications ingredients
- Hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
Bicillin should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated for use during pregnancy.

How Bicillin is taken?
You should take Bicillin exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Bicillin-5 and Bicillin-5 are injected only in the form of intramuscular injections. Injectable solution of Bicillin-5 and Bicillin-3 is prepared just before the application.

What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Bicillin dosage much higher than recommended. Most common reactions of overdose include fever, vomiting, diarrhea.

How Bicillin should be stored?
Bicillin products should be stored at dry place at a temperature 8-15°C. Shelf-life period is 3 years.
