How does generic Keflex work?
Generic Keflex contains the active ingredient Cefalexin which belongs to a group of medications called beta-lactam cephalosporin antibiotics. The medication works by interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell wall. Caphalexin exerts bactericidal effect against gram-positive and gram negative microorganisms. The medication does not act on anaerobic microorganisms.
When generic Keflex is prescribed?
Generic Keflex is indicated in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by sensitive to Cephalexin microorganisms:
- Infections of the upper and lower respiratory system
- Infections of the urogenital system
- Infections of the skin and soft tissue tissue
- Otitis media
- Osteomyelitis
- Endometritis
- Gonorrhea
Before taking generic Keflex
You should not take generic Keflex if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
Generic Keflex should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Having surgery
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is not intended to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How generic Keflex is taken?
You should take generic Keflex exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Tablets are taken with sufficient amount of water swallowing whole. Do not crash or chew the tablets. Try to take the medication at the same time each day. You can take the medication or without food. Make sure that you complete your entire prescription, even if you start feeling better.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Allegra dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: dyspepsia, diarrhea, CNS disorders.
Which generic Keflex side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Keflex. However, not everyone who takes generic Keflex will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Keflex tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Keflex side effects:
- Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, decreased appetite, increased activity of the liver transaminases, jaundice, hepatitis
- CNS: hallucinations, headache, dizziness, drowsiness
- Hemopoietic system: leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, dermatitis, Quincke's edema
- Other: arthralgia, candidiasis

Which other medicines can interact with generic Keflex?
- Uricosuric drugs (probenicid)
- Aminoglycosides
- Typhoid vaccine
- Diabetes drugs (metformin)
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
How generic Keflex should be stored?
Generic Keflex tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
