How does Zinacef work?
The preparation is a II generation cephalosporin antibiotic, which is used for oral or parenteral administration. The drug exerts bactericidal effect, through interfering with the bacterial cellular wall synthesis. The drug is a broad spectrum antibiotic, which is effective against gram-positive bacteria, which are resistant to penicillins.
When Cefuroxime is prescribed?The preparation is normally prescribed in treatment of the following susceptible bacterial infections:
- Respiratory disorders
- ENT infections
- Urogenital infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Cartilage and bone infections
- Lyme's disease
Before taking Zinacef
You should not take Cefuroxime if any of these conditions apply to you:
The drug should not be used in the following cases:
- Known allergy to cephalosporines, penicillins or carbapenems
Zinacef should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Chronic renal failure
- Bleeding and GI tract disease
- Lactation period
How Cefuroxime is taken?
You should take Zinacef exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose take the drug as soon as possible, however if it is already time for the next dose, you should skip the forgotten dose. Do not double the dosage.
What should I do if I overdose?
Call your health care provider immediately if you overdose. The overdose may lead to development of seizures. The concentrations of the drug in blood may decrease after hemodyalisis.
Which Cefuroxime side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Zinacef. However, not everyone who takes Cefuroxime will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Zinacef tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Cefuroxime side effects:
- Allergic reactions
- Urogenital system: vaginitis, rash
- CNS: seizures
- Urogenital system: dysuria, renal function impairment
- Gastrointestinal tract: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and spasms, oral candidosis, pseudomembranous enterocollitis
- Sensory organs: hearing impairment
- Haemopoietic system: hemolytic anemia
This is not a complete list of Zinacef side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.
Which other medicines can interact with Cefuroxime?
The preparation should not be used in combination with the following:
- Loop diuretics
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
How Zinacef should be stored?
The preparation should be kept away from direct sunlight. The storage temperatures, should not exceed 25C.
You should not share this medicine with others. Do not take Cefuroxime on your own initiative without your doctors approval. Keep the drug as well as any other disposable material out of the reach of children
