How does Plavix work?
The preparation is an inhibitor of thrombocyte aggregation, is an antiaggregant. The drug inhibits aggregation of ADP with receptors which are located on the surface of the thrombocytes. The preparation does not affect PDE. The drug irreversibly inhibits the receptors thus the restoration of normal aggregative function may be monitored within 7 days after the preparation withdrawal.
When Clopidogrel is prescribed?
|The drug is prescribed in the following conditions:
- The drug is prescribed in prophylaxis of ischemic disorders in patients with atherosclerosis
- Myocardial infraction
- Peripheral artery disease
- Acute coronary syndrome in combination with acetylsalicylic acid
Before taking Plavix
You should not take Clopidogrel if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparations
- Conditions with increased risk of bleeding or hemorrhagic syndrome
- Severe liver disease
- Pregnancy and lactation period
- Age prior to 18 years
- Moderate liver or renal failure
- Trauma
- Possible surgery
Plavix should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- The drug is used with caution in patients with increased risk of bleeding due to trauma or coagulopathy
- Renal dysfunctions
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

How Clopidogrel is taken?
You should take Plavix exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
In cases of missed dosage the preparation should be taken as soon as the patient remembers, however if it is the time for the next dose the patient should skip the missed dosage and resume the usual schedule. The preparation should not be used in double dosages.
What should I do if I overdose?
There is no specific antidote for the preparation. The effects of clopidogrel may be treated with a thrombocyte infusion. Consult your doctor immediately when if the overdose happens for further instructions.
Which Clopidogrel side effects are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Plavix. However, not everyone who takes Clopidogrel will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Plavix tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Clopidogrel side effects:
- Abdominal pain
- Dyspepsia
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Aggravation of stomach and duodenal ulcer
- Gastrointestinal bleeding
- Hemorrhagic insult in patients with possible predisposition
- Neutropenia
- Thrombocytopenia
- Skin rash

Which other medicines can interact with Clopidogrel?

How Plavix should be stored?
The preparation should be stored in a dry place at temperatures that not exceed 25C.
