How does Generic Alesse work?
Generic Alesse is a combined oral contraceptive that suppresses gonadotropins. The mode of action of the drug is characterized by inhibiting ovulation, changes in the cervical mucus and endomethrium. This prevent the sperm to enter the uterus and decreases the implantation rate.
When generic Alesse is prescribed?

Before taking Generic Alesse
You should not take levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol if any of these conditions apply to you:
- hypersensitivity to any components of the drug
- thromboembolic disorders
- abnormal genital bleeding
- breast or uterine cancer
- blood circulation disorders
- liver diseases
- cardiovascular diseases
- severe migraines
- jaundice caused by the pills use
- pregnancy (also suspected)
Generic Alesse should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- seizures, epilepsy
- gallbladder disease
- high cholesterol level
- excessive weight, diabetes
- depression (also in the history)
- a history of irregular menstrual periods
- varicose disease
- tuberculosis
- breast abnormalities
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Generic Alesse can cause birth defects. Do not use it if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant or if you miss two menstrual periods in a row. If you have recently had a baby, wait at least 4 weeks before taking Generic Alesse (6 weeks if you are breast-feeding).
Small quantities of generic Alesse can be found in the breast milk that may cause some disorders in the baby. If possible, nursing mothers should not use the drug during the lactation period and switch to another contraceptive method.
How Generic Alesse is taken?
You should take levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
A missed pill increases the risk of becoming pregnant. Contact your therapist to get a medical advice as soon as you remember about the missed dose.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you take an excessive dose. The main symptoms of overdosage include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.
Which Generic Alesse side effects are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. However, not everyone who takes Generic Alesse will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Generic Alesse tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Generic Alesse side effects:
- allergic reactions: hives, breath disorders, swelling
- weakness, headache, confusion, vision disorders, dizziness
- nausea, sweating, ill feeling, chest pain
- stomach pain, appetite and weight changes
- depression symptoms: difficulty falling asleep and other sleep disorders, mood swings, etc.
- breast tenderness, pain, swelling
- skin and / or hair disorders
- contact lenses intolerance
- vaginal discharge, itching
- menstrual cycle changes, decreased libido
This is not a complete list of levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiolside effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.
Which other medicines can interact with Generic Alesse?
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
Generic Alesse may interact with the following groups of drugs:
- antibiotics
- anticonvulsants
- barbiturates
- vitamin C
- paracetamol
- glucocorticosteroids
- anti-asthmatic drugs
- immunosuppressive drugs
- St. John's wort
How Generic Alesse should be stored?
Store Generic Alesse at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
