How does generic Yasmin work?

Generic Yasmin is a low-dose monophasic oral contraceptive with anti-mineralocorticoid and anti-androgen properties.

The contraceptive effect of generic Yasmin is based on the interaction of various factors, the most important of which is inhibition of ovulation and changes of cervical mucus. Endomethrium remains unprepared for implantation of the egg. As a result of increased viscosity of cervical mucus, it is difficult for sperm to enter the uterine cavity.

Drospirenone contained in Yasmin, has anti-mineralocorticoid activity that can prevent weight gain and other symptoms associated with water retention. It prevents the sodium retention caused by estrogen, provides a very good tolerability and positive impact in the premenstrual syndrome. In combination with ethinylestradiol, drospirenone improves the lipid profile and increases the level of HDL. Drospirenone has anti-androgen activity, which leads to a decrease in the manifestations of acne and reduce the production of sebaceous glands.

When generic Yasmin is prescribed?

• contraception (pregnancy prevention)
• hormone-induced water retention, acne, seborrhea in women

Before taking Generic Yasmin

You should not take Generic Yasmin if any of these conditions apply to you:

• hypersensitivity to any component of the drug
• venous and arterial thrombosis and prior thrombosis states (present or in history)
• severe or multiple risk factors for venous or arterial thrombosis
• diabetes mellitus with vascular complications
• severe liver diseases or liver tumors (benign or malignant) as present as in history
• severe or acute renal insufficiency
• hormone dependent malignant diseases of genital organs or breast
• vaginal bleeding of unknown origin
• pregnancy, breastfeeding

Generic Yasmin should be used with caution in the following conditions:

• cardiovascular diseases
• venous thromboembolism
• obesity
• arterial hypertension
• prolonged immobilization, major surgery
• migraines
• puerperal period
• systemic lupus
• chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases
• diabetes mellitus
• tumors

Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Generic Yasmin must not be used in case of confirmed or suspected pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

How generic Yasmin is taken?

You should take Generic Yasmin exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. The next dose should be taken as scheduled. It is possible to use a condom for the next 7 days for a better protection.

What should I do if I overdose?

Any serious side effects cause by overdose of generic Yasmin has not been detected. Usual overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting and slight vaginal bleeding. There is no specific antidote, treatment should be symptomatic.

Which generic Yasmin side effects are possible while the treatment?

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Generic Yasmin. However, not everyone who takes ethinylestradiol + drospirenon will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking ethinylestradiol + drospirenon tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Generic Yasmin side effects:

• hypersensitivity reactions
• breast tenderness, discharge from the breast
• headache, migraine
• libido variations, low mood
• poor tolerance of contact lenses
• nausea, vomiting
• changes in vaginal secretion, various skin disorders, fluid retention, weight change
• rare: chloasma, especially in women with a history of chloasma during pregnancy

Which other medicines can interact with Generic Yasmin?

• barbiturates
• anti-epileptic drugs
• anti-tuberculosis agents
• antimycotics
• antibiotics
• drugs that increase serum potassium level

Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.

How generic Yasmin should be stored?

Keep the drug out of reach of the children at room temperature.
