The medication contains the active ingredient Venlafaxine which belongs to a group of medicines called serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, or SNRIs for short. Venlafaxine works by inhibiting the reuptake of certain neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrin in the synaptic gap. Before taking Effexor
You should not take Effexor if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the medications
- Kidney dysfunction
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- History of suicidal thoughts or attempts
- Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors
- Bipolar disorders
- High blood pressure
- History of heart attacks and strokes
- Glaucoma
- Bleedings disorders
Effexor should be used with caution in the following conditions:

How Effexor is taken?
You should take Effexor exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Venlafaxine tablets should be taken whole swallowing with sufficient amount of water. Try to take the medication at the same time each day to maintain the constant level of the medication in your blood. Do not abruptly stop taking the medication.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Effexor dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: seizures, increased or decreased heart rate, vertigo, coma, liver damage, decreased appetite.
