How does Zoloft work?

Zoloft is an antidepressant whose mechanism of action is aimed to suppress the reuptake of serotonin by the neurons. Before taking Sertraline

You should not take Zoloft if any of these conditions apply to you:

  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding
  • Bipolar disorders

  • History of suicidal thoughts and attempts
  • History of recent heart attacks and strokes (for the past 6 months)
  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the drug

Sertraline should be used with caution in the following conditions:

  • Neurological disorders (including mental retardation)
  • manic states, epilepsy
  • liver and / or renal failure
  • weight loss
  • child age

How Zoloft is taken?

You should take Sertraline exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription.

Follow strictly to the prescription of your doctor. Do not exceed the dosage of administration or prolong treatment. Only your doctor may change the dose or period of treatment. Take Zoloft tablet with plenty of water. The medication can be administered during meal or after. It is important to take Zoloft at the same time every day.

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Zoloft. However, not everyone who takes Sertraline will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Sertraline tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Sertraline side effects:

  • Allergic reactions, bleeding, heartbeat, xerostomia, loss of appetite. nausea, vomiting, unstable stool, diarrhea, cramps in the stomach or abdomen, bloating, weight loss;
  • Headaches, dizziness, insomnia, somnolence, tremor, seizures, paresthesias, symptoms of depression, hallucinations, aggressiveness, agitation, anxiety, psychosis, visual disturbances (including blurred vision) , yawning, sweating,
  • skin hyperemia, or hot flushes of blood-to-face, skin rash and itching
  • violation of sexual function (delay ejaculation, decreased potency and / or libido)
  • dysmenorrhea, galactorrhea, hypomania, mania, hyponatremia

This is not a complete list of Zoloft side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.

Which other medicines can interact with Zoloft?

  • Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
  • Ethanol
  • Indirect anticoagulants
  • Lithium
  • H2-histamine receptors blocker
  • Synthetic hypoglycemic agents

Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.

How Sertraline should be stored?

Keep out of children reach, at a temperature not above 30 C
