How does generic Lamisil work?
Generic Lamisil possesses a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. It acts on a wide variety of fungi which cause infection of the skin, hairs, nails. In low doses terbinafine exerts fungicidal action against dermatophytes, mold fungi, some dimorphic fungi. The activity against fungi can be fungicidal or fungistatic. Terbinafine specifically inhibits the early stage of sterines biosynthesis of the fungal cells. This in its turn leads to deficiency of ergosterol and intracellular accumulation of squalen. This is ultimately fatal for the fungal cell.
When generic Lamisil is prescribed?
- Ringworm of nails
- Mycosis of the scalp hair
- Mycosis of the skin caused by Candida albicans
Terbinafine for oral administration is not indicated for tinea versicolor
Before taking generic Lamisil
You should not take generic Lamisil if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the drug ingredients
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
- Weakness of the immune system
- Systemic lupus erythematosus
Generic Lamisil should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Known allergic reactions to other medications or foods
- Liver or kidney diseases in anamnesis
How generic Lamisil is taken?
You should take generic Lamisil exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the type and severity of the fungal infection. Tablets should be taken whole swallowing with sufficient amount of water. Do not chew, crash or split the tablets.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Lamisil dosage higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: headache, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness.
Which generic Lamisil side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Lamisil. However, not everyone who takes generic Lamisil will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Lamisil tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Lamisil side effects:
- Headache
- Diarrhea
- Unexplained rash
- Heartburn or indigestion (dyspepsia)
- Increased liver enzymes (found using a blood test)
- Itching
- Changes in taste
- Pain in the abdomen (stomach)
- Hives
