How does Tricor work?
The preparation works by lowering the levels of lipids in the blood affecting LDL, VLDL and triglycerides. The drug increases catabolism of triglycerides and the production of HDL. The preparation is prescribed only in cases when a diet and additional exercise had no effect.
When Fenofibrate is prescribed?
The preparation is normally used in complex treatment of:
- Coronary and peripheral vessel sclerosis
- Diabetic angio- and retinopathy
- Disease accompanied by hyperlipidemia
Before taking Tricor
You should not take Fenofibrate if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Liver disease
- Sever renal impairment
- Young age prior to 18 years
- Known hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation
Tricor should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Mild liver impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- Alcoholism
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The preparation belongs to FDA category C, meaning that it should be used with extreme caution during pregnancy or breastfeeding period.
How Fenofibrate is taken?
You should take Tricor exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The treatment should be performed over a long period of time, combined with hypo-cholesterol diet and under health care providers monitoring.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
In cases of missed dosage the preparation should be taken as soon as the patient remembers, however if it is the time for the next dose the patient should skip the missed dosage and resume the usual schedule. The preparation should not be used in double dosages.
What should I do if I overdose?
There is no specific antidote for fenofibrate overdose. In cases of the accident happening call the clinic immediately. Strict monitoring of vital signs and possible gastric lavage is indicated. Treatment of overdosage should be symptomatic.
Which Fenofibrate side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Tricor. However, not everyone who takes Fenofibrate will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Tricor tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Fenofibrate side effects:
- Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, pancreatitis
- Locomotor system: pain in the muscle, muscle weakness
- Increased body weight
- Allergic reactions

Which other medicines can interact with Fenofibrate?
- Anticoagulants

How Tricor should be stored?
The drug should be stored at temperatures of 25C in a dry place protected from moisture and direct sunlight. The drug should be kept out of reach of children.
