Active Ingredients:

  • Ramipril

How does generic Altace work?

Generic Altace contains the active ingredient ramipril which belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors. Ramipril is a pro-drug which after absorption is metabolized in the liver to its active metabolite ramiprilate. Being ACE inhibitor the medication works by inhibiting angiotensin converting enzyme. The blockage of ACE leads to lowering the concentration of angiotensin II and increasing the activity of renin in the blood, enhancement the effects of bradykinin and increase the secretion of aldosterone. The medication exerts moderate hypertensive effect via dilating blood vessels and decreasing peripheral resistance.

When generic Altace is prescribed?

  • Generic Altace is indicated in the following conditions:
  • Primary hypertension
  • Chronic heart failure
  • Diabetic and non-diabetic nephropathy
  • Lowering the risk of heart attacks and strokes in patients with a high risk of cardiovascular complications

Before taking generic Altace

You should not take generic Altace if any of these conditions apply to you:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Angioedema in anamnesis
  • Bilateral stenosis of the renal arteries
  • Condition after kidney transplantation
  • Hemodyalisis
  • Stenosis of the arteries of a single kidney
  • Kidney failure (creatinine clearance < 20 ml/min)
  • Aortic and mitral stenosis
  • Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
  • Children under 18 years of age
  • Primary aldosteronism

Generic Altace should be used with caution in the following conditions:

  • Severe damage of the coronal and cerebral arteries
  • Unstable angina
  • Abnormal heart rhythm
  • Chronic heart failure IV
  • Liver failure
  • Kidney failure
  • Diabetes
  • Elderly patients
  • Systemic diseases of the conjunctive tissue
  • Inhibiting of bone marrow hematopoiesis

Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

The medication is not intended to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

How generic Altace is taken?

You should take generic Altace exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Generic Altace can be used as monotherapy or in combination with diuretics or other hypertension drugs. The medication is usually taken once daily at the same time each day. Atlace tablets can be taken with our without food. Tablets should be washed down with sufficient amount of water swallowed whole without chewing.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

What should I do if I overdose?

Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Altace dosage higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: chest pain, severe drop in blood pressure, bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, disorders of the water-electrolyte balance, acute kidney failure.

Which generic Altace side effect are possible while the treatment?

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Altace. However, not everyone who takes generic Altace will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Altace tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Altace side effects:

  • Urogenital system: kidney dysfunction, proteinuria
  • Cardiovascular system: hypotension, orthostatic collapse, tachycardia, arrhythmia, stenocardia, heart attack
  • Central nervous system : cerebral ischemia, blood stroke, dizziness, headache, weakness, drowsiness, paresthesia, estibular disturbance, taste, smell, hearing disorders, buzzing in ears. when using high doses - insomnia, anxiety, depression, confused mental state, decreased libido and potency
  • Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, bowel obstruction, pancreatitis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, dry mouth, appetite decrease, stomatitis
  • Respiratory system: bronchospasm, breathlessness, rhinorrhea
  • Hematopoietic system: anemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, hemolytic anemia
  • Dermatological reactions such as skin rash, hives, itching.

This is not a complete list of generic Altace side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.

Which other medicines can interact with generic Altace?

  • Diuretics (Water pills)
  • Sodium aurothiomalate
  • Lithium preparations
  • NSAID's
  • Potassium containing medicines and supplements
  • Potassium sparing diuretics
  • Immunodepressants
  • Hormonal replacement therapy (estrogen, oral contraceptives)
  • Other hypertensive remedies

Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.

How generic Altace should be stored?

Altace tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
