How does generic Lasix work?
Lasix contains the active ingredient furosemide which belongs to a group of medicines called diuretics or water pills. Furosemide blocks the transport system of ions Na +, K +, Cl- in the thick ascending limb of loop of Henle. Diuretic action of the medication is related to inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium chloride in loop of Henle. Furosemide increases the amount of excreted urine and increases potassium secretion in distal part pf renal tubule.
When generic Lasix is prescribed?
Generic Lasix is indicated in:
- edema syndrome in chronic renal failure
- acute kidney failure
- edema syndrome in nephrotic syndrome
- edema syndrome in liver diseases
- hypertension
Before taking generic Lasix
You should not take generic Lasix if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Severe renal failure
- Acute liver failure
- Pancreatitis
- Digitalis intoxication
- Ankylurethria
- Acute glomerulonephritis
- Hyperglycemic coma
- Hyperuricemia
- Arthragra
- Fluid or electrolyte problems
- Low potassium blood level
- Low sodium blood levels
- Decompensated mitral or aortal stenosis
- Hypotension
- Hypovolemia
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Children
- Increasing of central venous pressure
Generic Lasix should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Prostatic Hyperplasia
- Systemic lupus erythematosus
- Diabetes
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is not indented for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How generic Lasix is taken?
You should take generic Lasix exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Generic Lasix can be used as monotherapy or in combination with diuretics or other hypertension drugs. The medication is usually taken once daily at the same time each day. Lasix tablets can be taken with our without food. Tablets should be washed down with sufficient amount of water swallowed whole without chewing. Because it increases urination, it's best to take it in the morning. If you take it multiple times per day, it's best to take the last dose of the day before 6 p.m.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Cozaar dosage higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: low blood pressure, acute kidney failure, thrombosis, apathy, confusion, flaccid paralysis.
Which generic Lasix side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Lasix. However, not everyone who takes generic Lasix will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Lasix tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Lasix side effects:
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Anemia
- Headache
- Vertigo
- Increased photosensibilisation (sensitivity to sun light)
This is not a complete list of generic Lasix side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider. In rare cases Lasix may cause: Dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, dehydration signs, jaundice, tinnitus, high sugar blood levels, allergic reactions (rash, hives, wheezing, swelling, itching).

How generic Lasix should be stored?
Lasix tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
