How does generic Norvasc work?
Generic Norvasc contains the active ingredient amlodipine which belongs to a group of medicines called calcium channel blockers. Generic Norvasc works by binding to dihydropyridine receptor and blocks slow calcium channels, inhibits trans-membranous transport of calcium ions in the cells of the smooth muscle of the heart and vessels. Generic Norvasc exerts anti-hypertensive and anti-anginal effect. Anti-hypertensive effects of amlodipine is related to direct relaxation effect on the smooth muscles of blood vessels.
When generic Norvasc is prescribed?
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Stable angina
- Angiospastic angina
Before taking Norvasc
You should not take Generic Norvasc if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Acute hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or other ingredients of the drug
Generic Norvasc should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- severe liver diseases
- severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is not intended to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Make sure to inform your health care provider if you are pregnant, planning to or breastfeeding. Amlodipine is considered pregnancy category C meaning that is unsafe to use the medicines during pregnancy.
How generic Norvasc is taken?
You should take Generic Norvasc exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Generic Norvasc comes in the form of tablets which should be taken orally with sufficient amount of water swallowed whole without chewing. The medication is usually taken once daily at the same time each day.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Norvasc dosage higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: low blood pressure, peripheral vasodilation
Which generic Norvasc side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Norvasc. However, not everyone who takes generic Norvasc will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Norvasc tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Norvasc side effects: swelling, water retention, increased heart rate, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, flushing, stomach pain, drowsiness, pain.

How generic Norvasc should be stored?
Generic Norvasc tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
