How does Propecia work?
Propecia is specific inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme converts testosterone into its more active form dehydrotestosterone. Finasteride lowers the amount of dehydrotestosterone in the blood and tissue of the prostate gland. Since male pattern baldness is associated with increased levels of DHT, the decrease of DHL levels in the blood helps to prevent hair loss and promote hair growth.

Before taking Propecia
You should not take Propecia if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
- Women
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
Propecia should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Severe hepatic failure
- Severe renal failure
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is not intended for use in women
How Propecia is taken?
You should take Propecia exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The recommended dose of male pattern baldness is only 1mg once daily. The medication should be taken whole swallowing with sufficient amount of water. Do not chew, crash and split the tablets.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Propecia dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: dyspepsia, headache, dizziness.
Which Propecia side effects are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Propecia. However, not everyone who takes Propecia will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Propecia tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Propecia side effects:
- Decreased sexual drive (decreased libido)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Ejaculation problems
- Weight gain
- Depression
- Acne
- Allergic reaction
- Testicular pain
