How does Voltaren work?
Voltaren contains the active ingredient diclofenac sodium belongs to a group of medicines called NSAID's. Like other NSAID's diclofenac sodium exerts analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory. Action mechanism is associated with the inhibiting the enzyme called COX I and COX II. By inhibiting COX II (cyclooxygenase) diclofenac prevents the release of inflammatory mediators called prostaglandins which has a significant role in the pathogenesis of inflammation, pain and fever.
When Voltaren is prescribed?- Pain relief of mild and moderate severity
- Relief the symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
- Relief the symptoms ankylosing spondylitis.
Before taking Voltaren
You should not take Voltaren if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Stomach and duodenal ulcers
- History of bronchial asthma, hives, acute rhinitis caused by NSAID's use as well as other medications which inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins
- Age under 18 years of age
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
Voltaren should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
- Elderly age
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How Voltaren is taken?
You should take Voltaren exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Tablets should be taken whole with sufficient amount of water. If necessary tablets can be split in a half. It is better to take the medicine with food. In prolonged use or in high doses the medication may cause severe a lot of side effects.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
Usually the medication is taken when needed. If you are on schedule with Diclofenac sodium take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Mobic dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: low blood pressure, renal insufficiency, seizures, dyspepsia, diarrhea, vomiting, shortness of breath.
Which Voltaren side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Voltaren. However, not everyone who takes Voltaren will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Voltaren tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Voltaren side effects:
- Dyspepsia
- Meteorism
- Gastrointestinal bleedings
- Peptic ulcer
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Anemia
- Dizziness
- Swelling of the face, legs, lips
- Increased amount of liver enzymes
- Migraine
- Headache
- Water retention

How Voltaren should be stored?
Voltaren tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
