How does Naprosyn work?

Naprosyn contains the active ingredient Naproxen which belongs to a group of medicines called NSAID's. The medication exerts anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-pyretic action. Action mechanism is associated with inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase resulting in inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid. Naproxen inhibits platelets aggregation.

When Naprosyn is prescribed?

Pain relief. The medication is used to relieve pain associated with tendonitis or bursitis. The medication can also be indicated in the treatment of general pain such as neck pain, knee or back pain

Treatment of different types of arthritis: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis (also known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis), ankylosing spondylitis, and gout.

Remember that Naproxein does not cure arthritis and helps only to relieve the symptoms.

Before taking Naprosyn

You should not take Naprosyn if any of these conditions apply to you:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Bronchial asthma
  • Cardiovascular diseases including a history of heart attacks, congestive heart failure, strokes, angina, coronary heart diseases, hypertension
  • Liver diseases
  • Kidney diseases
  • Gastrointestinal bleedings
  • Diabetes
  • Stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Allergies to other NSAID's

Naprosyn should be used with caution in the following conditions:

  • Drinking alcohol frequently
  • Smoking
  • Having and recently had a surgical intervention
  • Liver diseases
  • Kidney diseases

Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:

The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding

How Naprosyn is taken?

You should take Naprosyn exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Tablets should be taken whole with sufficient amount of water. It is better to take the tablets with food at the same time each day.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

What should I do if I overdose?

Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Naprosyn dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: heartburn, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness

Which Naprosyn side effect are possible while the treatment?

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Naprosyn. However, not everyone who takes Naprosyn will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Naprosyn tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Naprosyn side effects:

  • Heartburn
  • Unexplained rash
  • Ttinnitus
  • Swelling
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Itching

This is not a complete list of Naprosyn side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.

Which other medicines can interact with Naprosyn?

  • Cancer medication (methotrexate)

Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.

How Naprosyn should be stored?

Naprosyn tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.

You should not share this medicine with others. Do not take Naprosyn on your own initiative without your doctors approval. Keep the drug as well as any other disposable material out of the reach of children.
