How does Retin-A work?

Retin-A possesses a unique ability to enhance the maturation of skin cells promoting the elimination of the plugged material in the follicle. How Retin-A is taken?

You should take Retin-A exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. You should apply Retin-A cream in a thin layer at night. When you first start using Retin-A, apply it every other night or every 3rd night. The flaking and irritation side effects are usually the worst in the first 2 weeks of application. As your skin adjusts to the medicine, you can apply it more frequently. Use a moisturizer daily. Regular use of an oil-free moisturizer will help control the inevitable dryness that comes with Retin-A use.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

You should apply medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed application. Do not apply 2 doses at the same time.

What should I do if I overdose?

Remove the excessive amount of applied cream right after application

Which Retin-A side effect are possible while the treatment?

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Retin-A. However, not everyone who takes Retin-A will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Retin-A tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Retin-A side effects:

  • Dryness of the skin
  • Redness
  • Flaking
  • Irritation
  • Swelling
  • Blistering
  • Lightening of the skin
  • Darkening of the skin
  • Burning sensation
  • Increased photosensitivity to light

This is not a complete list of Retin-A side effects. When side effects do occur make sure to inform your health care provider.

Which other medicines can interact with Retin-A?

  • Local and oral antibiotics
  • Other acne medications
  • Corticosteroids
  • Vitamin A
  • Birth control pills

Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.

How Retin-A should be stored?

Retin-A should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
