Active Ingredients:
- Eflornithine hydrochloride
How does Vaniqa work?
Vaniqa contains the active ingredient Eflornithine which works by blocking the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC). This enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of polyamines which are necessary for growth and differentiation of polyamines. It is believed that blocking of ODC helps to slow down the growth of hair cells within the hair follicles.
When Vaniqa is prescribed?
Vaniqa is used to slow down the growth of facial hair in women over 18 years of age
Before taking Vaniqa
You should not take Vaniqa if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Infections diseases of the hair
Vaniqa should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
- Allergies to foods and drugs
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
Talk to your doctor if you pregnant of breastfeeding
How Vaniqa is taken?
You should take Vaniqa exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Apply a thin layer of Eflornithine on the affected facial area or chin and rub in gently. It is recommended to apply the medication twice daily.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should apply medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed application. Do not apply 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Remove the excessive amount of applied cream right after application
Which Vaniqa side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Vaniqa. However, not everyone who takes Vaniqa will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Vaniqa tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Vaniqa side effects:
- Acne vulgaris
- Itching
- Redness
- Skin rash
- Herpres simplex
- Swollen lips
- Nausea
- Numbness

Which other medicines can interact with Vaniqa?
- Topical antibiotics
- Topical corticosteroids
Make sure to inform your health care provide about prescription and over-the-counter medication, herbal supplements, and other medical preparations you are currently taking. Do not begin a new medication without letting your doctor know.
How Vaniqa should be stored?
Vaniqa should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.

You should not share this medicine with others. Do not take Vaniqa on your own initiative without your doctors approval. Keep the drug as well as any other disposable material out of the reach of children.
