How does generic Imodium work?
Generic Imodium contains the active ingredient loperamide which belongs to a group ant-diarrheal medications. The medication works by binding to opioid receptors in the intestinal wall, inhibits the release of acetylcholine and prostaglandins, thus helps to decrease vermicular motion and increases increases the passage time of the stomach contents through the intestine. Loperamide increases the tonicity of the anal sphincter, lowering the amount of intestinal waste as well as urge to defecate.

Before taking generic Imodium
You should not take generic Imodium if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Acute dysentery and other infections of the gastrointestinal system (including Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Campylobacter spp.)
- Intestinal congestion
- Acute ulcerous colitis
- Pseudo-membranous enterocolitis
- Diverticulosis
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Children
Generic Imodium should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Renal failure
- Liver dysfunction including cirrhosis and liver failure
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medications is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How generic Imodium is taken?
You should take generic Imodium exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Generic Imodium should be taken with sufficient of water. Drink extra water while you are taking this drug to keep from getting dehydrated.
Imodium is usually taken at the first sign of diarrhea, and again if diarrhea comes back. The first dose of Imodium is usually twice as much as the following doses. Do not take this medication more than 3 times in 24 hours without your doctor's advice.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
The medication is taken only when is needed. If you take the medication regularly take it as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
The medication should be taken taken only when is needed. Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Clarinex dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: increased heart, chest pain

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Imodium. However, not everyone who takes generic Imodium will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Imodium tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Imodium side effects:
- Digestive system: constipation, flatulence, intestinal colic, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, in rare cases- intestinal obstruction
- CNS and peripheral nervous system: fatigability, drowsiness, dizziness
- Metabolism:hypovolemia, low electrolyte blood levels
- Allergic reactions: skin rash
- Other: urine retention

Which other medicines can interact with generic Imodium?
- Antivirals (Saquinavir)

How generic Imodium should be stored?
Imodium should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
