How does generic Nexium work?
Generic Nexium contains the active ingredient Esomeprazole which is S-isomer of omeprazole. Therapeutic effect is associated with decreasing the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach via specific inhibiting the proton pump in the parietal cells. Esomeprazole inhibits the enzyme of the proton pump - H+-K+-АТP-ase which is responsible for the transport of H+ into the stomach. Esomeprazole inhibits both basal and stimulating stomach secretion.
When generic Nexium is prescribed?
In gastroesophageal reflux disease:
- erosive reflux esophagitis
- secondary prophylaxis in patients with treated esophagitis
- symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease
In combination therapy: gastric and duodenal ulcer associated with Helicobacter pylori
Before taking generic Nexium
You should not take generic Nexium if any of these conditions apply to you:
Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredient
Before and after the treatment endoscopic control is necessary to avoid malignancy because the treatment can mask the illness and postpone the right diagnosis.Generic Nexium should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The safety of esomeprazole in pregnant women was not studied properly. Therefore you should inform your health care provider if you are pregnant before taking the medication. The medication is not intended for use in breastfeeding mothers.
How generic Nexium is taken?
You should take generic Nexium exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The medication is usually taken each day for a period of 4 to 8 weeks. Tablets should be taken with sufficient amount of water swallowed whole without chewing. It is important to take Esomeprazole regularly to get more benefit.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
There are no known any cases of overdose with Esomeprazole. In very high doses the medication may probably cause general weakness and dyspepsia.
Which generic Nexium side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Nexium. However, not everyone who takes generic Nexium will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Nexium tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Nexium side effects: headache, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, stomach pain, constipation. Other generic Nexium side effects include: weight loss, weight gain, nasal bleeding, skin rash, depression, blurred vision and others.

Which other medicines can interact with generic Nexium?

How generic Nexium should be stored?
Nexium tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
