How does generic Pepcid work?
The active ingredient of generic Pepcid is H2-histamine receptor blockers. The medication lowers basal and stimulating secretion of the hydrochloric acid induced by gastrin, coffeine, histamine, acetylcholine and physiological vagal reflex. Famotidine increases pH and lowers the activity of pepsin. The medication does act on gastrin, stomach motion, exocrine function of the pancreas, blood circulation in the portal system, does not exerts antiandrogenic action. Pepcid enhances the protective mechanisms of stomach mucous lining through increasing the formation of stomach mucous and stimulating the secretion of hydrocarbonate and endogenic synthesis of prostaglandins.

- Prophylaxis of gastric and duodenal ulcer
- Symptomatic ulcer treatment
- Erosive gastroduodenitis

Before taking generic Pepcid
You should not take generic Pepcid if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Children under 14 years of age
Generic Pepcid should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver failure, liver cirrhosis
- Kidney failure
- Allergic reactions caused by other H2-histamine receptors in anamnesis
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How generic Pepcid is taken?
You should take generic Pepcid exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Pepcid tablets should be taken with sufficient amount of water swallowing whole without chewing. It is recommended to take the medicine before eating. You should take the medicine at the same time each day. It usually takes several weeks for the ulcer to heal.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Allegra dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: vomiting, tremor, decreased blood pressure, increased heart rate, collapse.
Which generic Pepcid side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Pepcid. However, not everyone who takes generic Pepcid will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Pepcid tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Pepcid side effects:
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Constipation
Other side effect caused by Pepcid may include: confusion, seizure, arrhythmia, liver dysfunction, allergic reactions
