How does generic Zantac work?
Generic Zantac contains the active ingredient Ranitidine which belongs to a group of anti-acidic medicines called H2 histamine receptor blockers. Zantac inhibits basal and stimulating secretion of hydrochloric acid caused by histamine and acetylcholine. Generic Zantac contributes to the increase of pH and reduces the activity of pepsin. The duration of therapeutic effect of ranitidine is 12 hours.

Before taking generic Zantac
You should not take generic Zantac if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Children under 12 years of age
- Phenylketonuria
Generic Zantac should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver disease including hepatic failure, liver cirrhosis
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How generic Zantac is taken?
You should take generic Zantac exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Zantac tablets should be taken whole with sufficient amount of water swallowing whole without chewing. It may take up to 8 weeks of using this medicine before your ulcer heals. For best results, keep using the medication as directed. Talk with your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 6 weeks of treatment.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Allegra dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: lack of coordination, feeling light-headed, or fainting.
Which generic Zantac side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Zantac. However, not everyone who takes generic Zantac will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Zantac tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Zantac side effects:
- Cardiovascular system: AV-blockage
- Digestive system: diarrhea, constipation, hepatitis
- CNS: headache, dizziness, fatigability, confusion, hallucination.
- Hemopoietic system: thrombocytopenia, in prolonged treatment leukopenia
- Metabolism: increased blood level of creatinine
- Endocrine system: increased amount of prolactin, gynecomastia, amenorea, potency, decreased libido.
- Locomotor system: arthralgia, maylgia
- Allergic reactions: skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, brochospasm, high blood pressure.
- Other: recurrent parotitis, hair loss

Which other medicines can interact with generic Zantac?
- Antivirals
- Antimycotics (itraconazole, ketoconazole)
- Insomnia treatment (triazolam)
- Blood thinners (Warfarin)

How generic Zantac should be stored?
Zantac tablets should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
