How does gneric Valtrex work?
Valtrex is an antiviral remedy. The active ingredient of Valtrex is valacyclovir which is a prodrug. After oral administration valacyclovir is converted into acyclovir. After phosphorylation acyclovir comes in its active form. Acyclovir works by inhibiting the production of viral DNA leading to inability for viruses to growth and replicate.

Before taking gneric Valtrex
You should not take generic Valtrex if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation including acyclovir, valacyclovir
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe renal failure
- Dehydration
Generic Valtrex should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Severe liver cirrhosis
- Renal disorders
- Young age
- Elderly patients
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated for use during pregnancy
How generic Valtrex is taken?
You should take generic Valtrex exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Valtrex comes in the form of tablets which are taken orally with sufficient amount of water. Do not crash or chew the tablets. You should finish the prescribed course of treatment till the end. Do not stop taking the medicines if you become feeling better.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the medication as soon as possible. If its already time to your next dose, you should skip the missed dose. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Valtrex dosage much higher than recommended.

As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Valtrex. However, not everyone who takes generic Valtrex will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Valtrex tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following generic Valtrex side effects:

- Nausea
- Abdominal pain (or stomach pain)
- Painful menstrual periods
- Depression

- H2 histamine receptor blockers (cimetidine)

How generic Valtrex should be stored?
