How does Zovirax brand work?
Zovirax (acyclovir) is an antiviral remedy which acts on Herpes Simplex type 1 and 2, virus Varicella zoster, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus. After oral administration Thymidine kinase of the infectious cells converts acyclovir into its active form triphosphate acyclovir. Triphosphate acyclovir interacts with DNA-polymerase and fits into viral DNA. This interferes with the viral DNA causing its damage. This leads to inhibiting DNA replication of new viruses.
When Zovirax brand is prescribed?
- Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
- Chickenpox
- Skin infectious caused by Herpres Simplex type 1 and 2, including genital herpes and herpes of the lips
Before taking Zovirax brand
You should not take Zovirax brand if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Known allergic reactions to any of the medication ingredients
Zovirax brand should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Severe liver diseases
- Severe kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
- The medication is contraindicated for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How Zovirax brand is taken?
You should take brand Zovirax exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. Zovirax comes in the form of tablets which are taken orally with sufficient amount of water. Do not crash or chew the tablets. You should finish the prescribed course of treatment till the end.
