How does generic Alli work?
Generic Alli is a medication for the treatment of obesity. Orlistat is a specific inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases which acts in the stomach and bowel. Orlistat binds to the active centers of gastrointestinal lipase and inactivates the enzyme. Inactivated lipases looses its ability to break down fats (in the form of triglyceride, monoglycerides and free fatty acids). As far as triglyceride are not absorbed into the blood circulation, the amount of calories which enter the blood is reduced. Orlistat helps to prevent the absorption of approximately 25 percent of the fat in the diet. This leads to decrease of body weight.
When generic Alli is prescribed?
The medication is used in aid of weight loss in combination with healthy diet and physical exercises. Alli can be used for patients with BMI higher than 27.
Before taking generic Alli
You should not take generic Alli if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients Diabetes
- Thyroid problems
- Chronic malabsorption syndrome
- Cholestasis
- Pancreatitis
- Gall bladder disease
Generic Alli should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver dysfunction
- Kidney dysfunction
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication should be contraindicated in pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.
How generic Alli is taken?
You should take generic Alli exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The medication is taken only with fat food 1-3 times daily. If you skip and meal or take meal without fats you should not take Alli. It is recommended to take multivitamin complexes (vitamins A, D, E, K) while taking Alli. Capsules should be washed down with sufficient amount of water swallowing whole. Do not chew or crash the tablets.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but no more than 1 hour after eating a meal. If it has been more than an hour since your last meal, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not too tablets at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Alli dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: diarrhea, stomach pain
Which generic Alli side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking generic Alli. However, not everyone who takes generic Alli will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking generic Alli tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Generic Alli side effects:
- Diarrhea
- Oily spotting
- Abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- in up to 20.1 percent of people
- Meteorism
- Fecal urgency
- Sinus infection
- Soft stool
