How does generic Xenical work?
Generic Xenical contains the active ingredient Orlistat which is specific inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases. The medication acts in the stomach and small intestine where it binds to serine parts of the stomach and pancreatic lipase. Inactivates enzyme looses its ability to break down fats coming with food in the form of triglycerides. Because the triglyceride are not absorbed the organism gets less calories resulting in weigh loss.
When generic Xenical is prescribed?
- Prolonged therapy of obese or overweight patients (in combination with healthy diet and physical exercises)
- In combination with hypoglycemic preparations (metformin, insulin) and moderate low calories diet in patients with diabetes type 2 and overweight and obesity.
Before taking generic Xenical
You should not take generic Xenical if any of these conditions apply to you:
- Cholestasis
- Syndrome of chronic malabsorption
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
Generic Xenical should be used with caution in the following conditions:
- Liver diseases
- Kidney diseases
Application during pregnancy and breastfeeding:
The medication is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding
How generic Xenical is taken?
You should take generic Xenical exactly as indicated by your physician. Do not exceed recommended dosages. Follow the directions of your prescription. The medication is taken orally with sufficient amount of water. It is better if you take the medication with fat food. If you skip a meal, or if you eat a meal without fat, you should skip your Xenical dose. The medication should be used with appropriate diet plan.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember, but no more than 1 hour after eating a meal. If it has been more than an hour since your last meal, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at your next regularly scheduled time. Do not use two tablets at the same time.
What should I do if I overdose?
Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken Xenical dosage much higher than recommended. The symptoms of overdose include: diarrhea, stomach pain
Which Xenical side effect are possible while the treatment?
As with any drug, there are some side effects while may occur while taking Xenical. However, not everyone who takes Xenical will experience side effects. In fact, most patients taking Xenical tolerate it well. During clinical trials there were reported the following Xenical side effects:
- Oily spotting
- Stomach pain or discomfort
- Increased frequency of bowel movements
- Nausea
- Oily spotting
- Meteorism
- Fecal urgency
- Fatty or oily stool
- Oily evacuation
- Uncontrolled, spontaneous bowel movements (known as fecal incontinence)

How Xenical should be stored?
Xenical should be stored at room temperature (18-25°C). Protect from light. Do not store in the bathroom.
